HAWK graduate Stina Semrau from the Faculty of Design at HAWK in Hildesheim won first place in the first edition of the “Telling Images Contest” in Portugal with her project “Beterraba”.
The review team at Pato Lógico Publishing appreciated the work's balance between a solid narrative structure, which ironically depicts the tendency to overvalue the banal, and the playful and humorous nature of the illustrations, which encourage reflection on the permanence of humanity.
The theme of the competition was Silent Books. "Stina Semrau's contribution balances the two pillars of the challenge very well." The Portuguese publisher Pato Lógico explains that it appreciates when someone can tell a story using only images. The content should remain clear and allow people to find their own meanings based on their experiences and perspectives. The publisher was pleased with the high quality of the 79 submitted proposals. The book is scheduled for publication in spring 2025.
