The competition, organized by the Gerhard Bürger Foundation in collaboration with Elias Glashütte and Harzkristall glassworks, offered space for research and experimentation, allowing participants to explore the limits of what is possible. Katharina Akitani Gbogbo's washbasins take tap water, often taken for granted, to a new level.
With carefully hand-turned forms made of delicately colored glass, partially interspersed with bubbles and frosted with small surface irregularities on the inside, the product design student creates a striking display of flowing water. Her design is a reminder that water flowing from a tap into a glass basin is by no means ordinary, but rather precious. The project impressively demonstrates how design elements can be both aesthetically pleasing and consciousness-raising.
