Women applying for a professorship are underrepresented in the majority of disciplines at HAWK, as well as among appointed professors. Nationwide, only about a quarter of the professorships at Universities of Applied Sciences are held by women (as of 2024, source).

To actively address this imbalance, there are a number of support measures available for female academics.

Are you lacking teaching experience?

Currently, at HAWK, teaching assignments for women who have already successfully completed their doctoral studies are financed through the Federal and State Professorinnenprogramm (Female Professorship Program). The funds can be applied for through the faculties at the Equal Opportunity Office. If you are interested, please contact your faculty. For any questions about the program, you can also contact the Equal Opportunity Office.

Natural Sciences Scholarship for Female Doctoral and Postdoctoral Researchers

The Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard Foundation supports women in natural sciences with family responsibilities for a period of one year with a monthly grant of 500 euros — to assist with household help and additional childcare.
Applicants can be doctoral candidates from the second year of their doctoral studies onwards. It is assumed that the female scientist (doctoral student or postdoc) works full-time in research during the funding period, and that full-time daycare for the child(ren) is ensured and financed.

For more information, please visit the CNV Foundation’s website.

Are you looking to connect with someone in person?

If you would like to personally exchange ideas and ask questions to a female UAS-professor in a specific discipline, we are happy to facilitate the connection. Please contact the Chief Equal Opportunity Officer, Nicola Hille.

Here you will find the faculties along with their respective fields of study.
